"St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever. " --Goodreads.com

I read this book a while ago, probably around February, and I could NOT put it down. I was reading it in class, between class, through every study hall I had, until I finished it. That may be a bit exaggerated, but it was HIGHLY addicting.
This book kept me guessing a lot, between Lissa's romance with Christian Ozera, a shady Moroi who's parents had chosen the life of Strigoi, and Rose's love with her ultra-sexy teacher, Dimitri. Trust me, these two girls have got it goin' on! And the plot itself was very vague at first but then became extremely complicated and confusing.
Rose Hathaway is a very likeable main character, and I found myself liking her even more because of her stubborness and fiery temper, both of which I possess. She is a Dhampir, which is the race of the Moroi bodyguards. She is always picking fights and sticking up for Lissa.
While to me, Lissa has always seemed like that needy teen girl, who's always used to getting what she wants, and if she doesn't get it, she uses her Compulsion ability to get it. Honestly, she bugged me a lot, but I could find myself liking her and feeling sorry for her at the same time.
The dialogue is great and very realistic in a teenage setting. If the book wasn't based around Vampires, then I imagine most of it would take place at a regular high school!
This book is a great read, and the final ending really surprised me. When I thought I had it all figured out, the real plot turned me on my head and slapped me. I recommend this one fully and suggest the whole series! I know I can't wait to get my hands on the fourth and fifth ones!
RATING: 8.5 of 10
Until next time,

I read this book and thought it was ok. I like the new vampire stuff that's been going on for the past 3 years but this was just a little much. I read this one but didn't read any more of the series. Eliz might like it though=)
